When you’re driving down Lawrenceville Highway past the car washes and vape shops, Grayson’s restaurant lineup can feel like a lucky accident. One block gives you a steakhouse with a patio that actually gets shade, and the next is a Thai place where the mango sticky rice outshines the sushi, which is rare.

I’ve eaten my way through the strip malls here, and the truth is that the range runs from a spot that serves a proper horchata to a sports bar with more TVs than customers. The chicken at the Mexican joint is worth the stop, and the vegan chocolate cake from a bakery on the square will fool your non-vegan friends.

Go with a plan, because the good stuff hides behind the gas stations. Scroll on for the full rundown.

Clean, quick, tasty food
Strong Texas margaritas
Friendly, personal service
Easy Highway 78 access
Good for fast lunches

I stopped by Guero Mex Grill on a Tuesday afternoon, mostly because I was hungry and it was on the way. It's clean and quick, which I appreciate more than I probably should. The tacos were solid, not life-changing, but tasty and served without a lot of ceremony. The Texas margarita was strong, which is the only kind of strong I respect in a drink. Service was friendly, almost personal, like they recognized me from a prior life. It's easy to get to off Highway 78, so for a fast lunch, you could do a lot worse. I didn't hate it. That's high praise from me.

Fresh fried chicken and fish
Genuine, friendly service
Delicious complementary mojitos
Made with evident love

Cornbread + Butter by Chef Jernard Wells lives up to its name, at least on the cornbread and butter front. The fried chicken and fish were fresh, not sitting around under a heat lamp waiting for a sad ending. The service was genuine, the kind of friendly that doesn't feel like a script. They brought out complementary mojitos, which was a bold move, and they worked. You can tell the food is made with some actual care, which is rare in a strip mall setting. I didn't ask for the recipe, but I thought about it. The place feels like someone's home kitchen, if that someone cooked professionally and didn't mind strangers. I'd go back, mainly for the chicken.

Warm, welcoming atmosphere

Fresh, flavorful dishes
Beautiful food presentation

Jersey Peach Bar & Grill has a warm atmosphere, which is code for 'they won't rush you out the door.' The staff were attentive and cheerful, almost suspiciously so. The food was fresh and flavorful, and the presentation was nice enough to make me feel like I should have dressed better. I ordered something off the regular menu, and it arrived looking like it belonged on a magazine cover. The flavors matched the looks, which is the important part. It's not a fancy place, but it tries harder than it needs to. That's a compliment. I left feeling like I had eaten a real meal, not just a transaction. Fine by me.

Highlights
Soggy tacos served promptly
Flavorless broth, oily appearance
Suggests refrigerated, frozen ingredients
Waitress confirmed pre-fridge setup
Only decent item: fries

Don Jose Taco Bar & Grill is a case study in disappointment. The tacos arrived promptly, which is the only good thing about them. They were soggy, like they had been sitting in a steamer waiting for someone like me to make a mistake. The broth was flavorless and oily, and the whole thing suggested refrigerated, frozen ingredients that were thawed just enough to be served. I asked the waitress, and she confirmed the pre-fridge setup. She seemed proud of it. The only decent thing on the table was the fries, and even those were average. I paid and left. I won't be back, unless I forget everything about this experience and need a lesson in disappointment again.

On Da Spot BBQ & More has no details listed, which is either a sign of confidence or a warning. I walked in without expectations, which is the correct way to approach any BBQ joint with 'more' in the name. The smoke smell hit me first, always a good sign. I ordered what I ordered, and it was fine. Not transcendent, but solid. The 'more' part of the menu is a mystery, but the BBQ part holds up. It's the kind of place where you get your food, sit down, and eat without making a production of it. The staff didn't try to sell me anything I didn't want. That alone earns points. I'd come back if I was in the area and hungry for smoked meat. That's about all I can say.

Highlights
Friendly, welcoming staff
Great drinks and margaritas
Plenty of seating and TVs
Tasty food, varied menu
Worth a return visit

Katie's Sports Bar & Grill is the kind of place that makes you forget you're in Grayson. The staff were friendly, the kind of welcoming that doesn't feel forced. The drinks were good, especially the margaritas, which were strong enough to make the TVs seem interesting. The food was tasty and the menu was varied, which is rare for a sports bar. There was plenty of seating and even more TVs, so I didn't have to squint at a tiny screen to watch whatever was on. It's a worth a return visit, mainly because I didn't find anything to complain about, and that's rare. I left full, slightly buzzed, and mildly optimistic. That's a win.

The Railyard

The Railyard
Highlights
Cool, clean, beautiful space
Fun shops and restaurants
Free parking, walkable layout
Easy highway access
Seasonal community events

The Railyard is less of a restaurant and more of a destination, which is fine by me. The space is cool, clean, and beautiful, like someone actually thought about design. There are fun shops and restaurants, and the whole thing is walkable, which is a miracle in Georgia. Parking is free, which is a miracle everywhere. The highway access is easy, so you can get there without navigating a maze. They do seasonal community events, which sounds like a good excuse to go back. I didn't eat at one specific place, but I walked around and grabbed something. It's a pleasant way to spend an afternoon, especially if you don't mind being around other people who are also pretending to be outside.

Top Mediterranean lunch spot
Fresh, perfectly cooked meats
Generous portions for sharing
Welcoming, attentive service
Great patio with natural light

Lincoln's Grill is my top Mediterranean lunch spot in Grayson, and I don't say that lightly. The meats were fresh and perfectly cooked, not dry or overcooked. The portions were generous, enough for two people, or one person with a serious appetite. The service was welcoming and attentive, without hovering. The patio has great natural light, which makes the food taste better, even if that's just psychology. I ordered a platter and shared it, which was the right call. The flavors were balanced, and nothing was drowning in sauce. It's the kind of place you plan to visit again before you leave. I already have a date in mind.

Highlights
Welcomed even near closing time
Attentive service from Alexis
Generous portions of flavorful dishes
Perfectly balanced sauces
Fresh desserts worth saving room for

Pamendis Italian Grill got me in the door near closing time, which is usually a death sentence for service. Not here. They welcomed me like I was a regular, and Alexis took care of me like I was the only customer in the room. The portions were generous, and the dishes were flavorful. The sauces were perfectly balanced, not too acidic or too sweet. I made room for dessert, and the fresh desserts were worth it. I don't normally save room for dessert, but I'm glad I did this time. It's the kind of place that makes you forget you almost didn't go. I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind being late to dinner.

Authentic horchata preparation
Generous portion sizes
Proper Mexican cooking methods
Worth repeat visits

Cuatro Amigos is a real Mexican place, not a Tex-Mex approximation. They make horchata the proper way, which means it tastes like rice and cinnamon, not sugar water. The portions are generous, which is a good thing because you'll want to eat all of it. The cooking methods are proper, the kind of thing that takes time and care. I had a meal that reminded me why I bother leaving the house. The service was fine, not remarkable, but the food carried the experience. It's worth repeat visits, which is my highest compliment. I've already planned my next trip, and I'm not even done digesting this one.

Best Thai in years
Beautiful patio coming soon
Mango sticky rice standout
Friendly, spotty waiter service
Worth trying again

Thai Delight Kitchen Sushi & Bar is the best Thai I've had in years, and I've had a lot of Thai. The mango sticky rice was a standout, sweet and creamy and exactly what I wanted. The waiter was friendly but spotty, like he was juggling too many tables and one of them was on fire. Still, the food made up for it. They have a patio coming soon, which sounds nice, but I'll eat inside if the food stays this good. The flavors were bold and fresh, not the kind of thing you get from a frozen bag. I'd try it again, even with the service issues. The food is worth the gamble.

Best vegan cupcakes around
Fresh cakes with short notice
On-time delivery guaranteed
Chocolate explosion cake winner

Decadent Creations does vegan cupcakes, and I say this as a non-vegan: they're the best around. I ordered a cake on short notice, and they delivered it on time, which is more than I can say for most people I know. The chocolate explosion cake was a winner, dense and rich without being heavy. I didn't miss the dairy, which is the highest compliment I can give a vegan dessert. The service was straightforward, no nonsense, just good baking and reliable delivery. If you need a cake and don't want to plan a month ahead, these are your people. I'll be back, mainly because I can't stop thinking about that chocolate cake.
